Title: My Experience of Halloween in Grade 1

As a primary school student, I had the opportunity to celebrate Halloween for the first time in my life. It was an unforgettable experience, and I would like to share it with you in this essay.

Halloween, a traditional festival in the United States, is celebrated on October 31st each year. It originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which is a day to honor the dead. Over time, it has evolved into a festival of ghosts, witches, and devils, and it has become a significant event for people around the world.

In my primary school, we held a variety of activities to celebrate Halloween. The most exciting part was the costume party. We were all encouraged to dress up as our favorite characters. I chose to be a fairy princess, wearing a beautiful, glittery dress, a sparkling tiara, and a pair of magical wings. When I arrived at school, I was surprised to see that my classmates had dressed up as various famous characters, such as superheroes, animals, and even famous celebrities.

The school hall was decorated with red and black streamers, spider webs, and pumpkins. The atmosphere was mysterious and exciting. After the opening ceremony, we participated in various games and activities. The most popular one was "Trick or Treat." We went from classroom to classroom, knocking on doors and asking for candy. If the teacher gave us candy, we would say "Thank you, teacher!" and move on to the next classroom. If they didn't, we would play a trick on them, such as singing a song or telling a joke.

One of the highlights of the day was the pumpkin carving contest. We were given a pumpkin and some carving tools, and we had to create our own unique designs. I decided to draw a smiley face on my pumpkin and then carve it out. When I finished, it looked so cute that everyone praised me. I was so proud of my creation!

In addition to the activities, we also learned about the history and customs of Halloween. Our teacher told us that the custom of wearing costumes originated from the ancient Celts, who believed that wearing costumes would prevent evil spirits from recognizing them. The custom of carving pumpkins also dates back to the ancient Irish, who used to carve turnips and place candles inside them to scare away evil spirits.

The day passed quickly, and it was time for us to say goodbye to each other. As we left school, I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. I realized that I had made so many new friends and had so many wonderful memories. I was looking forward to celebrating Halloween again next year.

In conclusion, my experience of Halloween in grade 1 was unforgettable. It was a day filled with excitement, fun, and laughter. It taught me about the customs and traditions of a different culture and allowed me to make new friends. I will always cherish this special memory and look forward to celebrating Halloween again in the future.
