The 2024 December CET-4 examination paper one has come to an end, and it seems like a distant memory now. However, the questions, the answers, and the experience still linger in my mind. This article aims to share my reflections on the test, including the questions, the challenges, and the lessons learned.
Firstly, let's talk about the questions. As an English learner, I was quite familiar with the CET-4 format, which consists of listening, reading, writing, and translating sections. However, the actual questions were quite challenging. The listening section, for instance, required me to understand not only the main idea but also the details. The reading section had a variety of texts, including narrative, expository, and argumentative styles, which required me to analyze and infer the meaning. The writing section demanded a comprehensive understanding of the topic and the ability to express my thoughts coherently. Lastly, the translating section tested my ability to translate Chinese to English accurately and coherently.
The listening section was particularly challenging. The speakers' accents varied, and some words were pronounced in a way that was not common in my daily English listening. This made it difficult for me to catch the main idea and understand the details. However, I realized that it was essential to train myself to adapt to different accents and pronunciations. This experience taught me the importance of not being complacent with my listening skills and to continue practicing and exposing myself to different English accents and pronunciations.
The reading section was also a challenge. The texts were not only long but also contained complex vocabulary and sentence structures. To tackle this, I had to develop effective reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, and inferencing. I also learned to take notes while reading, which helped me to keep track of the main points and answer the questions accurately. This section made me realize that reading is not only about understanding the words but also about comprehending the overall meaning and being able to extract information from the text.
The writing section was another challenge. The topic required me to write an essay in 120 words. I had to organize my thoughts and express my ideas coherently within the given word limit. To achieve this, I had to plan my essay structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. I also learned the importance of using a variety of sentence structures and vocabulary to make my writing more interesting and engaging. This section made me realize that writing is a skill that requires practice and perseverance.
Lastly, the translating section tested my ability to translate Chinese to English accurately and coherently. It required me to not only understand the meaning of the Chinese text but also convey the same meaning in English. To do this, I had to practice my translation skills, such as understanding the context, identifying key information, and using appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures. This section made me realize that translation is not just about translating words but about conveying the essence of the text in a different language.
In conclusion, the 2024 December CET-4 examination paper one was a challenging but rewarding experience. It provided me with the opportunity to assess my English proficiency and identify areas for improvement. The lessons learned from this test will undoubtedly help me in my future English learning journey. As an English learner, I will continue to practice and improve my skills, aiming to achieve a better score in the next CET-4 examination.
